LA SALLE TWP, MICH. (WWJ) Investigators with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office are searching for a hit-and-run driver who damaged a cemetery on New Year's Day.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened on January 1, around 11:40 a.m., at the Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in La Salle Township-- on Dixie Highway near S. Otter Creek Road.

Authorities said their preliminary investigation indicates an "unknown year gray Chevrolet Impala" was driving north on Dixie when it veered off the road to the east. The car struck "several sections of fencing and a concrete pillar" before driving off.

Investigators found pieces of the Impala at the scene-- consistent with a Chevrolet Impala FlexFuel Passenger Vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Deputy John Bills of the Sheriff's Office Uniform Services Division is leading the investigation.
