ROYAL OAK (WWJ) – Cosmik Fries and endless craft beer choices are coming back to Royal Oak this winter.
More than two years after closing up shop during the height of the pandemic, HopCat announced Tuesday it is reopening a location in downtown Royal Oak.
HopCat, the chain known for its addictive Cosmik Fries and a curated selection of local and national craft beers, closed its Royal Oak location near Fifth and Washington Avenues in 2020.
Now Project Barfly, a West-Michigan hospitality group that runs HopCat and several other restaurants, is reopening a few blocks away, at 430 Main Street – taking over the former Noodles & Company, GameStop and BD’s Mongolian Grill storefronts.
Officials say the location is expected to open this winter but did not give an estimated opening date.
BarFly CEO Ned Lidvall says the company is looking to hire about 150 employees at the new location, including line cooks, prep cooks, dishwashers, barbacks, hosts, food runners, servers and bartenders.
Employee training will begin in late November, according to Lidvall, so those interested are encouraged to apply soon.
Job seekers can apply now at barflyjobs.com or in-person at the Detroit HopCat location at 4265 Woodward Avenue. Applicants can also text BarFly at 85000 to begin the application process.
