LIVONIA (WWJ) - Road work is causing massive traffic troubles for drivers on a major freeway bordering Oakland and Wayne Counties.
WWJ Traffic reporter Scott Ryan said it's taking drivers over an hour to to get south on I-275 Tuesday morning with major back ups reports from 10 Mile in Farmington Hills all the way to Six Mile Road in Livonia.
Traffic is down to one lane at Six Mile due to construction, Ryan added. In an 11 a.m. update, conditions were slightly better with drivers waiting apporximently 30 to 45 minutes.
Ryan said drivers can use Haggerty or Newburg/Halstead as alternative routes.
But that's not the only problem area on Metro Detroit's west side. Road work has westbound I-96 down to one lane at I-275 right where I-96 turns into M-14.
"Just the right lane is open until 3 p.m., backups from Levan," Ryan added.
It's taking drivers about 15 minutes to a half hour to get through those work zones.
