(WWJ) Hyundai and Kia recalled more than 281,000 SUVs, saying they are a fire hazard due to a problem with the trailer hitch wiring.
The recall covers 245,000 Hyundai Palisades ( (NHTSA ID: 22V-633) and over 36,000 Kia Tellurides ((NHTSA ID: 22V-626), with model years 2020 through 2022.
The National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA) ask owners of the affected SUVs to park them outdoors and far away from buildings.
Debris and moisture could accumulate in the circuit board, which can cause an electrical short and ultimately a fire while the vehicle is parked and turned off, or while driving; according to both companies.
No confirmed injuries, deaths or fires have happened in the United States due to the defect; according to the NHTSA.

Hyundai said dealers will inspect the wiring and remove a fuse as an interim repair.
Kia has yet not developed a temporary or permanent fix.
Both companies have ordered a "stop sale" on these vehicles until the problem can be properly addressed. The companies are working on a fix.
