As of noon, the eastbound side of I-94 was closed at Moross.
The sheriff's office confirmed to WWJ Newsradio 950 that shots were fired at one of their deputies, late Tuesday morning, but did not say what led up to the gunfire. It's also not clear at this time if there have been any injuries.
Early reports say the suspects may have dumped their car on the freeway and ran away.
Harper Woods Police ask residents and drivers to stay away from the area of Peerless and Damman, as WWJ's Jon Hewett reports law enforcement is out in force searching for the suspects.
