DETROIT (WWJ) -- I-94 will be completely closed to traffic between I-75 and the Lodge Freeway (M-10), beginning Friday morning.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) says the closure is needed to allow contract crews to make another round of hangar adjustments on the new Second Avenue bridge over I-94, and to continue work on the Grand River Ave. overpass above I-94.
Weather permitting, the closure (including both the eastbound and the westbound ramps) will begin at 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16.
Both directions of I-94 are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20.
MDOT notes that drivers on the northbound and southbound Lodge will have access to westbound I-94 during daylight hours on both Friday and Monday.
DETOURS:
Westbound I-94 traffic will be detoured via southbound I-75 and westbound I-96 back to westbound I-94. All entrance ramps to westbound I-94 from Mt. Elliott to John R. streets will be closed.
Eastbound I-94 traffic will be detoured via eastbound I-96 and northbound I-75 back to eastbound I-94. All entrance ramps to eastbound I-94 from 30th Street to the Lodge will be closed.
Something else to keep in mind for Friday, Dec. 16: Three left lanes on southbound I-75 will close between the Clark Street off-ramp and Springwells Street/southbound I-75 on-ramp for work on the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
