NOVI (WWJ) -- Eastbound I-96 is back open at Novi Road in Novi, after a wreck involving a gravel hauler a car tired up traffic for hours on Thursday.
Michigan State Police said the truck's trailer flipped over in the crash, spilling gravel all over the freeway.
WWJ Newsradio 950 tipster Josh, who was driving on the westbound side of I-96, said it looked like a pretty serious accident.
"The gravel (truck) tipped over and the back trailer fell on top of a car a smashed it," he said. "The driver is out of the car though; I see nobody in the car."
Fortunately, no one was hurt in the crash, police said.
MSP said, however, that the gravel mess on the freeway, added to the construction zone in that area was "bad news" for drivers.
Police spent the afternoon closing down the freeway for brief periods, then opening up a lane again to let some cars go by.
Traffic was backed on eastbound I-96 for about three miles, with some drivers waiting an hour in the jam.
All lanes have since reopened.
