(WWJ) Crews are continuing to work on a sinkhole that opened up alongside I-75 near 11 Mile in Oakland County last week.
While progress is being made on the project, a stretch of the highway between I-696 and 12 Mile Road in in Madison Heights will remain closed until Wednesday afternoon, the Michigan Department of Transportation said Sunday.

The section of the northbound Interstate between Lincoln to Gardenia avenues will also stay closed. There is no estimate as to when the area of the highway will reopen.
MDOT's Rob Morosi says another southbound lane is expected to reopen sometime on Monday afternoon.
The northbound lanes are expected to remain closed for now, with a single lane possibly opening up on Wednesday.
When it comes to what caused the sinkhole, MDOT’s Rob Morosi said it developed as crews worked on a drainage tunnel.
The sinkholes that resulted in drainage tunnel work damaged the pavement on the northbound service lances of the interstate.
The sinkhole was found on Friday, and the section of the interstate has been closed since then. The portion of the interstate is also expected to be rebuilt in 2022 as part of a modernization project for the highway, according to MDOT.
