CLARKSTON (WWJ) -- There was an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation happening in Northern Oakland County on Wednesday, putting nearby schools on alert.
The Clarkston Community Schools was put into "shelter-in-place" mode, late Wednesday morning, just as a precaution.
A spokesperson for the district told WWJ Newsradio 950 they were informed that ICE was in the general area and in pursuit of multiple individuals. The schools are reacting, although they were told there is no imminent threat connection to the ICE operation.
Before noon, the shelter-in-place order had been lifted.
People in the area reported seeing significant law enforcement presence, and a lot of police lights near the entrance to Pine Knob, off Sashabaw Rd. and Clarkston Rd.
There has been no word of any arrests, an no description of any suspects.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office confirmed to WWJ that they were out there, dealing "a situation" — but law enforcement has not yet released any further information.
