DETROIT (WWJ) -- Icy road conditions are being blamed for a number of car crashes in the Detroit area.
Tuesday morning, there was a series of crashes reported along 8 Mile Road near Greenfield Road. A tow truck driver told WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton that there were as many as 20 vehicles involved.
One Southfield Police car was hit.
In addition, witnesses said one person who was involved in a crash got out of his car and was hit. Police aren't confirming any serious injuries at this time.
Salt trucks were in the area shortly after the crashes were reported.
Meanwhile, slick conditions may have played a role in several more crashes along I-75 and M-59 in Oakland County Tuesday morning.
With temperatures in the 30s and low 40s on Tuesday, police are urging drivers in Metro Detroit to stay save by slowing down, and increasing the distance between vehicles.
