PLAINWELL (WWJ) - The discovery of an "old incendiary" device at a business in West Michigan prompted a local police response, including a call in to the state police's bomb squad, before it was determined safe, authorities said on Friday.
Plainwell Public Safety officers said they were dispatched to a business in Plainwell, northwest of Kalamazoo, around 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 3 after someone reported finding the device.
According to police, the explosive appeared to have been hallowed out, but authorities were unsure if it was still dangerous.
Photos of the object were sent to the Michigan State Police who then dispatched their bomb squad to the scene for further investigation.
After their arrival, the bomb squad said the device was rendered safe. Polie said the explosive was taken by MSP for further investigation as a precaution.
The public was not believed to have been in any danger.
