INKSTER (WWJ) - A 25-year-old man who sparked a weeklong manhunt after he allegedly shot and killed his mother on Labor Day has been charged with her murder, officials announced.
Joshua Hill, 25, of Inkster was caught by Detroit police on Sunday, Sept. 10, almost a week after the fatal shooting of his 64-year-old mother at her home in the 29020 block of Glenwood Street in Inkster on Monday, Sept. 4.
According to police, Hill and his mother got into an argument before the 25-year-old threatened her with a gun. Police responded to the home around 2:15 p.m. and discovered his mother's body with multiple gunshot wounds in her bedroom, but Hill was nowhere to be found.
His mother was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, police added.
Hill was on the run for several days before he was taken into custody over the weekend. Police said he was armed at the time of his arrest.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Hill with First Degree Murder and Felony Firearm in connection to the fatal incident with additional charges related to his arrest expected to be added to the homicide case at the time of Hill's preliminary examination.
Worthy said additional information about the case will also be released at the same court date.
"Matricide is not a crime that is widely committed. We are alleging that Joshua Hill did just that. We are relieved that he has finally been found and taken into custody. We will now begin the process of bringing justice to the rest of his family," said Worthy, in a statement.
Hill was arraigned in 22nd District Court Tuesday and ordered held on a $1 million bond. He will be back in court for a probable cause conference set for Sept. 30.
