TAYLOR (WWJ) - Emergency crews have cleared up and reopened the scene of a major Downriver collision after a train rammed into a flatbed truck early Friday morning.
Taylor Police confirmed the collision to WWJ's Terri Lee Chandler just before 7:50 a.m. and said the incident unfolded just south of Ecorse Road on Beech Daly in Taylor.
Beech Daly was closed for several hours as a result of the crash, but has since reopened.
A witness from nearby steel fabricator facility, Voss Taylor, told WWJ that the truck was spun sideways when it was hit, while the train continued down the tracks for a little ways.
Taylor Police Lieutenant Jeff Adamissom told WWJ's Charlie Langton that the truck driver was believed to be at fault.
"We believe from preliminary investigations the truck crossed the tracks with the warnings up, trying to beat the train," Adamissom said.
Taylor police dispatch confirmed there were no serious injuries and only the truck driver sustained minor wounds.
Adamissom says their findings will be turned over to the railroad police as the investigation continues.
"It's never good to try and beat the train," he warned.
