HURON TWP (WWJ) – It was a U-turn gone wrong in Huron Township this morning.

Around 4:30 a.m., on February 25th, the Huron Township Department of Public Safety Emergency Dispatch Center received a call regarding a semi-truck that jackknifed and was blocking a portion of Wayne Rd., south of Pennsylvania Rd.

Authorities told WWJ Reporter Charlie Langton on scene that the truck driver tried to make a U-turn, but slipped and jackknifed.

While officers and firefighters were investigating, they discovered diesel fuel leaking out of the truck. They believe 100 gallons of fuel leaked into a nearby storm drain.

Wayne Rd. was closed for over four hours, as a hazmat team had to be called to the scene for evaluation and clean up.

The Allstate Environmental Group, Buck’s Oil and Environmental Experts, were able to suction the fuel from the storm drain.

It did not reach any other drains. Crews said that no soil was affected and no fuel made it to any water ways.

The area and roadways were evaluated and cleaned. The roadway is now open to traffic.
