DETROIT (WWJ) -- A Detroit man is facing potential life in prison after a deadly stabbing at a local high school.
Wayne County Prosecutors announced Monday that 42-year-old Hemida Ramadan-Khedr Mohamed has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 59-year-old Steven Gipson last Thursday.
Officials said Mohamed is accused of stabbing Gipson multiple times, causing fata injuries at Redford Union High School — where both men worked as janitors.
Police said a fight erupted between Mohamed and Gipson after hours at the school, on Kinloch Street in Redford, and Mohamed pulled a knife.
When police arrived, they found Gipson with serious injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital where he died of his wounds.
Police have not specified a motive around the stabbing, nor said what the men were fighting about.
School administrators stressed that the incident happened well after students had been dismissed for the day, and that no students in danger. Administrators said the custodial staffers involved were employed at the school through a third party,
Mohamed was arraigned in 17th District Court on Monday and was remanded to jail without bond. He will be back in court for a probable cause conference scheduled for Nov. 14, followed by a preliminary exam set for Nov. 21 before Judge Krista Haroutunian.
