DETROIT (WWJ) – A man suspected of stealing a woman’s prescription pills at a Meijer store on Detroit’s northwest side has been arrested.

Detroit police officials say a 63-year-old woman arrived at the Meijer at the intersection of Grand River and McNichols around 2 p.m. Monday with the suspect.

The woman went inside the store to buy her prescriptions, while the suspect remained in a newer model, forest green Jeep Wrangler in the parking lot, according to police.

As the woman tried to get back in the Jeep, the suspect took her prescriptions and began to drive away, causing her to fall to the ground. She was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries.

A few hours after releasing a photo of the Jeep Tuesday afternoon, officials said the man had been taken into custody. Police describe the suspect as a man in his 30s or 40s. No other information was provided.

It was not clear whether the woman knew the suspect or why she was riding with him.

Anyone who knows something about the crime has been asked to call the Detroit Police Department’s 8th Precinct at 313-596-5840. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP or online at Detroit Rewards.TV.
