ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) -- A project designed to help improve Lake St. Clair water quality is moving into its next phase, with some major road closures into the summer.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reports some local residents, business owners and fishermen who frequent St. Clair Shores aren't too pleased about the work that's disrupted traffic along the busy Nautical Mile.
Beginning Tuesday (5/26) southbound Jefferson Ave. is closed between 10 Mile Rd. and 11 Mile Rd. for a big sewer repair project.
While the work is ongoing, the city will divert traffic to 11 Mile, south on Harper, through the neighborhoods.
Detours are posted.
Julie Beltowski, owner of the Lakeside Fishing Shop, said she's hearing from some customers with safety concerns.
"They're saying that they're not happy that people are speeding down the streets," Beltowski said. "So, just have some common courtesy, and stop speeding. There's a lot of children out there."
Other business owners told Langton they're worried they'll lose customers during which is usually their busy season.
The work is expected to continue until at least July.
