Jennifer Crumbley's trial set to begin Tuesday

James Crumbley will go on trial in March

(WWJ) - An Oakland County court announced that the mother of the Oxford High School shooter will go on trial Tuesday, while the father's trial is scheduled to start in March.

Jury selection for Jennifer Crumbley's trial is set to begin Tuesday morning.

The trial is taking place more than two years after her son, Ethan Crumbley, killed four students at Oxford High School and left seven others wounded.

Jennifer and James Crumbley are both charged with involuntary manslaughter. If they are convicted, they face up to 15 years in prison.

Experts say the parents are the first in the country to face charges in connection to a mass shooting committed by their child.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald said the Crumbleys bought their son a gun and ignored his pleas for help.

During a meeting at the school the day of the shooting, the Crumbleys allegedly didn't tell school administrators that Ethan had access to a gun, according to the investigation.

The prosecution has to convince a jury that the parents were "grossly negligent" and the shooting was a result of their actions, officials said.

The Crumbleys requested separate trials in November. The request came after evidence was received that could cause a "conflict of interest" if they were tried together.

Ethan Crumbley was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

James Crumbley's trial is scheduled to begin March 5.
