DETROIT (WWJ) - JoJo's Shake Bar makes is grand debut in downtown Detroit this weekend, vying to become one of the city's top spots for delicious desserts and classic dinner fare.
Known for their signature over-the-top milkshakes, the Chicago-based company opens their first location out of Illinois in Detroit on Sept. 24 in the Detroit District area.
The self-touted "next-generation" restaurant and bar will sit at 88 W. Columbia Street in between the Fox Theater and Little Caesars world headquarters, easily accessible to those walking in the area or attending one of the many major events at Comerica Park or Little Caesars Arena.
It is the company's fifth location, with four others operating in Illinois.
While JoJo's Shake Bar offers gluten-free and vegan friendly options, the company says it is "no place for a diet," as it is most known for their decadent milkshakes topped with a wide variety of sweet treats, like candy, toffee, marshmallows, cookies and more.
The company said on its website that several milkshakes offered at the Detroit location will pay homage to local musicians and sports figures, while "transporting adults back to simpler times with its 80s/90s -inspired details, like arcade game table and a walk-up window for sports fans on the run,"
As reported by the Detroit Free Press, some of the Motor City-theme shakes guests can purchase include:
• BlueBarry Gin and Juice: The drink is a tribute to Barry Sanders, former Lions running back, and features Botanist gin, Cointreau and blueberry. It's garnished with lemon.
• The Smokin Hot Blonde: This cocktail is a tribute to Madonna, Queen of Pop, and features mezcal, passion fruit, firewater bitter, amarena cherry and a smoking cinnamon stick.
• The Faygo Float: A tribute to the iconic Faygo pop. It's topped with vanilla ice cream and cherry Pop Rocks.
In addition to the shakes, the restaurant offers a variety of different craft cocktails, snacks and dinner options.
JoJo's Shake Bar also puts on it's famous Boozy Brunch every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., which includes waffles, French toast, a lox platter, breakfast burritos and chicken and waffles. A signature shake, dubbed Brady Brunch, consists of Oreo espresso topped with bacon, waffles and a French toast stick is on the brunch menu.
