LIVONIA (WWJ) – Sometimes a guy just wants to get a pedicure and still "feel like a guy."
That’s exactly what the folks at a new salon in Livonia are trying to provide.
Just For Hym opened on 5 Mile Road in Livonia last month as a salon created just for men, offering manicures, pedicures, facials, foot detoxification, massages and more.
And don’t forget the TVs showing sports, an NBA arcade game, chess boards, and complimentary wine to help customers feel like themselves.
The owners, Roderick and Joanne Byrd of Canton, are trying to give men a judgment-free space for some self-care, according to a story from the Detroit Free Press.
Joanne Byrd wants her customers to be able to “sit back and relax, and get the experience of a hot rock manicure or nice relaxing steam facial or relaxing exfoliating pedicure, and leave out saying, ‘Oh, wow, that was wonderful,’” the Free Press reported.
One customer told the Free Press he was getting ready to take a trip to South Carolina, but his feet were in rough shape.
“I’m not a guy that wears sandals, and so I told her (his pedicurist), if she gets these dogs together by the time for me to go to Myrtle Beach, which is in a couple of weeks, she's got a client for life,” Smiley said, according to the Free Press. “And she has succeeded in that.”
The owners are apparently exploring the idea of opening another location and possibly franchising the business in other states.
Just For Hym is currently taking about 30 customers per week, according to the Free Press.
The salon is located at 28422 Five Mile Road and is open 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Appointments can be booked on the Just For Hym Facebook page or by calling 734-469-4733.
