GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ) – A sustainable footwear company is setting up shop in Michigan.
HOLO Footwear has announced it is relocating its headquarters from Portland, Oregon to downtown Grand Rapids, with support from the Michigan Strategic Fund.
The minority-owned company, founded in 2020, manufactures sustainable outdoor footwear, using recycled material in each shoe, with the goal of keeping consumer prices affordable.
HOLO currently sells through retail partners, including Dick’s Sporting Goods, Nordstrom and REI, and will be launching its own e-commerce operations when it moves to Michigan.
The announcement of HOLO’s relocation to Grand Rapids was made Monday by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Officials say the move will create more than 60 high-wage jobs, supported by a $250,000 performance based grant from the Michigan Business Development Program.
HOLO will relocate to a move-in ready facility in Grand Rapids, where it will add machinery and equipment and begin opening e-commerce operations. Officials say the project is expected to generate a total capital investment of $1.5 million.
HOLO chose Michigan for its headquarters over competing sites in North Carolina and Oregon. Officials say the company chose West Michigan because of its “robust outdoor recreation assets, strong talent pool, and attractive business environment.”
HOLO plans to offer “a home for design students to begin and grow their careers, and subsequently retain that talent in the state.”
