3-year-old shoots himself in the hand outside Lansing convenience store

LANSING (WWJ) -- A toddler is recovering at after shooting himself in the hand.

Police say the incident happened on Saturday while the 3-year-old was in a car parked outside a convenience store on South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and West Miller Road in Lansing.

Officials arrived at the scene just after 12 a.m. to find the child with an injury to his hand, but in otherwise stable condition.

He was then taken to the University of Michigan hospital, where he received treatment from a specialist.

One person is now in custody for a weapons violation related to the incident.

The investigation by Lansing police is ongoing.
