WARREN (WWJ) - An early morning drug bust in Macomb County led to a large amount of dangerous fentanyl-laced heroin being taken off the streets, Mayor Jim Fouts announced on Tuesday.
"Great job Warren Police!" the mayor praised on social media. "Warren police raided a major drug dealer’s residence in Warren early this morning! This resulted in confiscation of a large amount of fentanyl, firearms, and bulk currency."
The raid happened in the early morning hours on Sept. 27. Fouts praised officers and said any amount of fentanyl taken off the streets will save lives, WWJ's Charlie Langton reported.
"As you know, drug deaths are up in the Metro area, including Warren, from heroin laced with deadly fentanyl and concurrently, I believe violent crime is also up at least in part due to the use of heroin," the mayor said.
Fouts did not release additional details as the raid remains under police investigation. Langton said police were able to gain leads from the Warren bust that may be helpful in the future.
Foust said he "highly commended" Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer and his leadership within the city to deter crime and save lives.
"Currently, Warren is the leader in the Metro Area in specific investigative efforts to stamp out the scourge of deadly drugs," Fouts said. "I support strong efforts to eliminate these dealers of death!"
