DETROIT (WWJ) – A Lincoln Park man with a criminal past has been charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death of a Detroit man last December.
Fadi Moussa Faraj, 36, is accused of shooting John Gregg, Jr., and hitting him with his car in Southwest Detroit on Dec. 23, 2021.
Faraj was charged last week and arraigned on Monday. In addition to first-degree murder, he's also facing one count of felon in possession and two counts of felony firearm.
Officials say it all unfolded around 11 p.m. two days before Christmas in the 2610 block of Norman Street – near Vernor Highway and Central Avenue.
The 39-year-old Gregg was allegedly standing next to Faraj's car when the two men got into a verbal altercation.
Officials say it escalated and Faraj pulled out a gun and shot Gregg, before running him over and fleeing the scene. It was not clear what prompted the altercation.
Detroit police officers responded to the scene and found Gregg lying in the street with severe trauma to his head and body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Faraj, who has multiple convictions dating back to 2005, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections, is scheduled to appear in court for a probable cause hearing on Aug. 1.
