Livonia man faces charges after police say he crashed into an Amish buggy while drunk on the 4th of July, injuring 2 people

(WWJ) A Livonia man is facing charges after crashing into an Amish Buggy in Mid Michigan on the Fourth of July.

According to the Gladwin County Sheriff's office, 22-year-old was driving drunk in a Toyota SUV when he crashed into the buggy, shortly after 11 p.m., along Wirtz Rd. near Nickless Rd.

Two people on the buggy were hurt, officials said: a 22-year-old Amish woman and a 16-year-old Amish boy.

Both were taken to a hospital for medical treatment, according to the sheriff's office, but they were expected to be OK. At last report, they were listed in stable condition.

The driver SUV driver was arrested and booked in the Gladwin County Jail on a charge of Operating While Intoxicated causing injury.

The supect's name has not yet been released, as he awaits an arraignment.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Gladwin EMS, Gladwin Rural Fire Department and Michigan State Police crash investigators.
