(WWJ) A trucker trying to get to the Ambassador Bridge instead went onto the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

The Canada Border Services Agency says the transport truck drove onto the Gordie Howe International Bridge from the U.S. side on September 29th. The truck was intercepted by border services officers before reaching the Canadian port of entry and directed back to the U.S. to proceed to the Ambassador Bridge, according to the CBSA.

The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority said a "lost truck driver" was unable to find their way appropriately out the Gordie Howe International Bridge project site after receiving direction from Bridging North America security personnel on how to safely proceed to their intended destination of the Ambassador Bridge.  The driver became further disorientated given the size and complexity of the construction site.

The authority says there are multiple security barriers including extensive fencing to prevent people from erroneously crossing, and there was no opportunity for the truck to enter Canada.

No firearms were drawn during the incident, according to the Canada Border Services Agency.

The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority reminds all travellers that the Gorde Howe International Bridge remains closed to traffic and they have verified that all installed signage and GPS mapping systems indicate as such.

The bridge is scheduled to open early next year.
