Lottery jackpots both topple $400 million for Friday drawing

(WWJ) -- There are some huge lottery jackpots up for grabs this weekend.

The Mega Millions jackpot on Friday is now worth $405 million, while Saturday night's Powerball has reached $457 million.

The Michigan Lottery Commission's Jake Harris says the odds of winning the Powerball are about 1 in 292 million, with similar odds for the Mega Millions, but one thing is for sure -- you have no chance of winning if you don't buy a ticket!

"I think people are really getting excited and it's a life-changing amount of money," Harris said told WWJ's Beth Fisher. "Somebody's gotta win, it might as well be somebody from Michigan."

If you need more incentive, a $1 billion ticket was sold at a Kroger in Novi earlier this year.

Winners of this weekend's drawings could take payments for 30 years, or a cash option that would be $211 million for the Mega Millions and $237 million for the Powerball after taxes.

The Mega Millions drawing is set for 11:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Powerball drawing will happen at 10:59 p.m. on Saturday.
