NOVI (WWJ) - A bomb threat called into Nordstrom at Twelve Oaks Mall prompted a swift evacuation on Saturday, but a search conducted by multiple police agencies came up empty-handed, authorities said.
Chief Erick Zinser, the Director of Public Safety and Chief of Novi Police told WWJ's Ryan Wreck that they were at the Metro Detroit location at 27500 Novi Rd. in Oakland County for several hours conducting an investigation with the help of Michigan State Police.
Nordstrom, located on the north side of the mall, was getting ready to reopen, Zinser said, after they were forced to close following the threat made around 12:03 p.m. on April 8.
"They received a call from a caller who demanded $2,000 in gift cards or they were going to blow up the store," Zinser continued. "There was no indication of a device, we have not located any devices or suspicious package and we did not see anything out of the ordinary."
MSP posted to social media just after 3:30 p.m. stating their K9 unit was helping Novi police searching the store.
Nordstrom, an upscale department store chain, evacuated its customers, Zinser added, but law enforcement kept the rest of the mall open.
At this time, police are continuing to investigate and identify the man who called in the threat.
Zinser said the incident is believed to be isolated to Nordstrom and there is no threat to public.
