ST CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) -- A woman has been charged in relation to the death of another woman found dead at the end of a driveway at a Macomb County house.
St. Clair Shores Police received calls about a body laying at the end of the driveway of a home on Francis Street, near Harper and 13 Mile, on Nov. 1.
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said the victim, identified as 76-year-old Mary Hulswit, of St. Clair Shores, had injuries “consistent with being struck by a vehicle.”
Authorities allege that 31-year-old Stephanie Holt hit Hulswit at the end of her driveway as she was pulling out.
On Nov. 4, Holt was arraigned in the 40th District Court for one count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident – when at fault – resulting in death, a 15-year felony, and felony – commission with motor vehicle.
Holt’s bond was set at $100,000 cash/surety/10%. She would be required to wear a GPS tether, wouldn’t be allowed to return to the scene of the incident and wouldn’t be able to contact the victim’s family if she is released on bond.
“Fleeing from an accident, particularly one that results in serious injury or death, is illegal,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said. “When an accident occurs, the law requires that individuals stop and immediately contact emergency services.
She is expected in court for her probable cause conference on Nov. 14. Her preliminary exam is scheduled on Nov. 25.
