CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) — A Macomb County 911 dispatcher is receiving high praise after helping a Clinton Township family deliver a baby over the phone last weekend.

It was just before 5:45 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29 when Cidnee Schramm got a call at the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center from a man whose wife was in active labor.

Her water had broken and her contractions were less than a minute apart, according to the sheriff’s office. Schramm “calmly helped the caller successfully deliver the baby and stimulate the baby’s breathing post birth,” officials said in a Thursday Facebook post praising the dispatcher’s work.

Schramm stayed on the phone with the man until the Clinton Twp. Fire Department got to the scene and continued care.

“Once the head appears, I want you to put one hand below the head as it delivers, okay,” Schramm is heard saying on dispatch audio shared to Facebook. “Once the head is out, I want you to wipe out the mouth and nose with a clean, dry towel.”

She went on to give further instructions following the baby’s birth, including how to stimulate its breathing.

“You guys did a fantastic job,” she is heard saying as the baby was crying in the background.

“We are incredibly proud of the composed and professional manner in which Dispatcher Schramm handled this call,” Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said. “Dispatchers like Cidnee prepare diligently for instances like this, and we are thankful for this positive outcome.”

The sheriff’s office says the mom and baby are both doing well. Officials did not release the family’s name.
