(WWJ) A grandmother from Clinton Township has been charged with a firearms safe storage violation after her grandson took a gun to school.

The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office charged Lisa Christy, 52, with the crime nine days after her grandson was found with the gun at Center Line High School.  The building was put on lockdown after the principal called police after students saw the gun.

Three juveniles, including Christy's grandson, were charged with several felony and misdemeanor offenses and are awaiting future court hearings.

While following up with the incident, a Center Line police investigation revealed Christy's grandson went  to her house where he found her handgun and ammunition in an unlocked room.  The boy took the gun without Christy's knowledge and took it to school and showed other classmates.

The safe storage violation is a misdemeanor punishable up to 93 days and/or a fine of not more than $500.

Christy was arraigned in the 41-B Clinton Township District Court and given a $100,000 personal bond with the condition of no possession of firearms or any other weapons.  She's scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing June 3.
