ARMADA (WWJ) -- A 16-year-old boy could be facing charges after he admitted to posting on Snapchat that Armada High School was "next" and referred to a threat circulating on social media.

According to Michigan State Police, the Macomb County student said he posted it because he wanted a day off from school after seeing other schools in the area close following threats.

MSP were called to the high school on Thursday, Dec. 2, after two students reported the Snapchat to school officials.

This prompted the school to send students home that day and to close school on Friday.

But after investigating and interviewing the suspect, troopers and detectives concluded that there wasn't any indication the threat was credible and there wasn't a plan to carry it out.

During an interview with the suspect, police stated they had no indication this was a credible threat and the 16-year-old had no plan to carry out any threat.

Although, the boy could be facing some repercussions.

"We want to remind parents and students that regardless of the reason, making a false threat of terrorism is a felony and could result in 20 years imprisonment," said authorities.

This investigation is continuing.
