(WWJ) A Macomb Township man was arrested in Shelby Township Monday night after it's alleged he was posing as a police officer — and tried to pull over an actual cop.
Christian Katan Mansoor, 18, was arranged in 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills on Wednesday on one count of impersonating a public officer, and was released on a $5,000 bond.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded, just after 11 p.m. on April 3, to a report of a possible police impersonator in the area of M-59 and Crooks Road in Rochester Hills.
The deputies were met by a Waterford Township cop who said was in her own vehicle, off-duty, when a person driving a silver BMW with flashing red and blue lights pulled up behind her and tried to make a traffic stop.
The off-duty officer said the driver, later identified as Mansoor, passed her near Dequindre and Hamlin Road, and she followed him to confront him.
The Waterford officer identified herself as a police officer, and asked Mansoor to identify himself.
The young man claimed, according to the sheriff's office, that he was Detroit police officer from the 12th Precinct.
But when the Waterford cop asked to see Mansoor's ID, he said he had to get it from his car, then just drove away.
The off-duty officer followed Mansoor to a trailer park in Shelby Township where OCSO deputies later found him as he was switching license plates from the BMW he'd been driving to another BMW he owned, the OCSO said.
Mansoor was arrested after a short foot chase.
"Individuals that pose as police officers present a threat to the public and undermine legitimate law enforcement,” said Sheriff Michael Bouchard, in a news release detailing the case on Wednesday. “Thankfully, this individual was caught and is being held accountable for this incident."
Bouchard is asking anyone who may have been pulled over by this suspect, or who has experienced any similar incident, to call the sheriff's office.
Mansoor could spend up to one year in prison if convicted as charged.
