ROYAL OAK (WWJ) A young father and local server died as a result of a high-speed police chase in Roseville over the weekend, police said.

Family members identified the victim as Alex Habib, 28, of Madison Heights. He was a married father to two young children and a server at Jim Brady's in Royal Oak.

His wife and her cousin set up a GoFundMe Page to help the family with funeral and living expenses.

"It is with shattered hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of Alex Habib — a devoted husband, loving father, son, brother, and loyal friend — who tragically lost his life (Saturday) morning as the victim of a high-speed car accident," the page reads.

He had a one-year-old daughter and a three-month-old son.

"His life revolved around his family — he was their strength, their protector, and their constant source of support," his loved ones wrote on the GoFundMe page.

The Detroit News reports Warren Police said he was struck by a car that was involved in a pursuit with Roseville Police in the area of Van Dyke and 11 Mile on Saturday, July 12, around 3 a.m. Roseville Police have not responded to WWJ's request for comment.

Jim Brady's said they are "heartbroken" over the loss and described Habib as "loved by all who came into contact with him."

Meantime, in an Instagram post, his father-in-law Dale Durant described Habib as a "a tireless worker, a steady provider, a loyal golf partner, and above all, a true friend and brother."
