Madison Heights Police investigating attempted car theft that was caught on homeowner's security camera

MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- Police are investigating a car theft attempt that happened early Monday morning at a residence in Madison Heights.

Around 5 a.m., the Madison Heights Police Department was called to a home in the 28000 block of Couzens Street following a report of suspects attempting to steal a 2021 Dodge Durango.

Once officers arrived, the suspects had already left the area after their unsuccessful attempt to steal the car.

Police reviewed the homeowner's security cameras which showed two suspects involved in the attempted car theft.

One of the suspects appeared to be armed with an AR-15 style pistol and was described as a Black male wearing a white mask, a light-colored hoodie, black pants with white stripes along the sides and light-colored shoes.

The second suspect was described as a light-skinned Black male wearing a light-colored mask and a grey zip-up hoodie with a black or dark-colored horizontal stripe on the front.

Officials warn the public to exercise caution and not approach any individual attempting to steal or break into a vehicle.
