(WWJ) -- A major road closure in Macomb County begins today while crews start repair work on a railroad crossing.

The closure will last for one week in each direction.

Westbound M-59 will close at 7 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 4, and is expected to reopen at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11. The posted detour will be Northbound M-3, westbound 21 Mile Road, and southbound North Avenue back to westbound M-59.

Eastbound M-59 will close at 7 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 18, set to reopen at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25. The posted detour will be Northbound M-3, westbound 21 Mile Road, and southbound North Avenue back to westbound M-59.

The road work is part of a major rebuild of Hall Road that the Michigan Department of Transportation says will impact an estimated 90,000 drivers in metro Detroit.
