(WWJ) An estimated 90,000 drivers will be affected by a traffic shift along a notoriously busy stretch of roadway in Macomb County.
The Michigan Department of Transportation says phase one of a project to rebuild more than four miles of Hall Road kicks off on Friday.
MDOT spokeswoman Diane Cross warns that slowdowns are expected beginning April 2, with only two lanes open along westbound M-59 between between Gratiot Ave. and Romeo Plank Rd.
After the morning rush hour, westbound M-59 traffic will be shifted to the right lane and shoulder beginning at North Avenue, to allow crews to work on the left lanes from Elizabeth Road to Romeo Plank Road.
Then next week, starting after Monday morning's commute, eastbound M-59 traffic will be shifted to the right lane and shoulder beginning near Garfield Road.
"Because, again, we're going to build up that right shoulder," Cross explained, "so we can shift traffic over to only two lanes on the eastbound side, from Romeo Plank out past Elizabeth Road."
And this isn't a quick fix, Cross said.
Residents and visitors should be prepared for trips through this area to take a little longer for some time, as this remodel of M-59 will last through the fall.
