PONTIAC (WWJ) - A Pontiac man was arraigned on Friday for the shooting of two men at a shopping plaza in May, authorities said.
28-year-old Demarkius Travonia Jones was charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of felony firearm, and one count of firearms possession by a prohibited person, according to a statement from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
The incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. on May 31. Authorities said that deputies went to the plaza, located at 704 W. Huron St., after reports of a shooting were called in.
It was discovered that the front of the building had "numerous bullet holes in the front façade," the statement said. A white Dodge Durango parked near the location had similar holes.
A man, allegedly holding an "AR-style rifle," was found inside the building. He dropped the weapon when deputies ordered him to. The 23-year-old Pontiac man appeared to have a minor gunshot wound to his back, according to authorities.
A second 23-year-old Pontiac man was found lying in a "pool of blood" on the floor.
Both men were transported to a local hospital. Officials said one man was released that evening. The other is still hospitalized.
Detectives identified a vehicle they believed was driven by the shooter in the area of Perry and Beach Streets. The vehicle was allegedly driven by Jones, who was arrested by members of the Sheriff's Office Directed Patrol Unit later, according to the statement.
Authorities said additional evidence was discovered in the vehicle that linked Jones to the shootings.
"I applaud the great work of our team to not only quickly track down and apprehend the perpetrator, but to put together a case so he may be held fully accountable," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. "Clearly, having just been paroled a few months back for a violent crime, he needs to be off the streets."
Jones was ordered to be held without bond. His next court date has not been set.
