EASTPOINTE (WWJ) - One man is in police custody after he allegedly open fired on his stepson, hitting him twice in the chest, and then barricaded himself inside a home around midnight on Friday.

According to the Eastpointe Police Department, officers were called out to a home in the 22000 block of Lembrecht just before 11 p.m. after a woman dialed 911, screaming: "He killed my baby."

As police arrived at the location, they observed a man standing over a woman in the front yard before the man ran inside the home.

The woman told police that her husband had open fired on her 50-year-old son, who was struck twice in the chest. She said her wounded son was inside the home where her husband, still in possession of a firearm, had just entered.

A barricaded situation ensured with the Eastpointe Police, the Eastpointe Police Detectives Bureau and Special Investigation Unit, St. Clair Shores Police and Roseville Police all assisting at the scene.

Negotiators were able to make contact with the suspect, the department added, with the man stating several times that he would come out of the house -- but he failed to do so.

Throughout the negotiation process, detectives learned where the victim was located inside the home and could hear him heavily breathing. Police ended up forced their way into the residence and quickly found the victim and removed him from the home into a waiting ambulance.

The 50-year-old man was rushed to St. John's Hospital where he was last listed in stable condition with gunshot wounds to his chest and upper torso, police stated.

The suspect, who was located in an upper floor of the home, surrendered to police and was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect later admitted to shooting his stepson during questioning at the Eastpointe Police Department.
