DETROIT (WWJ) - A 41-year-old man is behind bars after troopers said he pulled out a gun and pointed it at another driver on I-75 in Detroit as tempers flared Monday evening.
According to Michigan State Police, troopers received a call from a man who reported the felonious assault around 7:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-75 near Fort Street.
The caller said a male driver in another vehicle brandished a handgun at him as both were driving along the freeway in a road rage incident.
Troopers met the victim at a gas station on Fort Street where they were able to identify a suspect in the case, identified as a 41-year-old man from Royal Oak, after investigating the vehicle description and a registration plate.
MSP said troopers stayed on I-75 to search for the suspect vehicle and spotted it a short while later. Troopers pulled the vehicle over to question the driver.
While searching the vehicle, troopers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun.
“This suspect went through the process of obtaining CPL.” F/Lt. Mike Shaw, MSP PIO, said in an update on the case to social media. “During a simple driving altercation, pulled out his pistol and pointed it at the victim."
Shaw slammed the incident, calling it "another bad decision with a gun which could have ended a lot worse.”
The suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to the Detroit Detention Center as the case pends a review by the county prosecutor, police added.
