Detroit man arrested at Royal Oak Twp. hotel after allegedly hitting, robbing girlfriend and throwing brick at her car

ROYAL OAK TWP. (WWJ) — A Detroit man is in custody after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at a Royal Oak Township hotel Wednesday evening.

It all unfolded around 7:45 p.m., according to Michigan State Police, when they got a call about a domestic assault at the American Inn and Suites on 8 Mile Road near Wyoming.

Investigators learned the victim was attacked and robbed by her boyfriend. He allegedly hit her in the face and body, threw a brick at the window of her car and forcibly robbed her of $300, MSP officials said.

The victim told police the man had run into the hotel. When troopers showed up they set up a perimeter around the building with canine units and help from Oak Park police.

Troopers used security cameras to confirm the suspect had fled into a room on the fourth floor. When troopers went to the room they were let in by another man and woman.

Troopers entered the room and found the suspect hiding in the corner. The suspect was taken into custody after a short struggle.Troopers also found 40 ecstasy pills in the suspect’s pocket.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending prosecutor review.  The victim refused medical treatment.
