MELVINDALE (WWJ) -- One metro Detroit man is behind bars after stealing an ambulance and leading police on a chase through several downriver communities.
WWJ’s Roberta Jasina reports that the incident began in Taylor on Monday evening, when the suspect jumped into an ambulance that had been left running by EMTs outside of a convenience store.
Police followed the stolen ambulance down I-75 into downtown Detroit. The suspect then got back on the highway and headed towards downriver, exiting at Outer Drive in Melvindale.
A Facebook Live video captured by local resident Michelle Golden shows the moment the police were able to wrangle the suspect by blocking him in with pit maneuver near Greenfield and Allen roads.
