(WWJ) - A Clinton Township man is facing multiple charges after authorities said he allegedly impersonated fire personnel on two separate occasions.

On May 5, 47-year-old Jason Edward Barnes allegedly came to the location of a homicide, where he introduced himself as a fire captain and had a badge. He attempted to enter the home where the investigation was taking place, according to a statement from the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

The second incident allegedly took place on May 28. Barnes reportedly arrived at a fire investigation “outfitted in firefighter gear with a badge and spoke with officers at the scene,” the statement said.

In regards to the first incident, Barnes was charged with impersonating firefighter or emergency medical service personnel, which is a two-year felony, and unlawful use of fire emblems or logos, which is a 93-day misdemeanor.

Barnes was charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, both 5-year felonies, and impersonating firefighter or emergency medical service personnel for the second incident. Barnes is also being charged as a habitual fourth offender, according to the statement.

“We take the act of impersonating emergency personnel very seriously, as it undermines the trust and safety of our community,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said. “These actions not only disrupt investigations, but could contaminate crime scenes and pose a risk to public safety."

Barnes was arraigned on Friday, where a  bond of $250,000 was set in 41B Clinton Township District Court. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for July 2.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and Barnes could face more charges.
