EASTPOINTE (WWJ) – A father accused of stabbing his son in Eastpointe has been charged with attempted murder.

The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office announced the case against 68-year-old Richard Mayack on Friday, one day after he allegedly stabbed his adult son at their home, in the 24000 block of Kelly Road. He is charged with one felony count of assault with intent to murder, as well as domestic violence, a misdemeanor.

Eastpointe Police said the two men got into an argument and fight that evening, before the situation escalated and Vince Mayack was stabbed by his dad in the stomach and head.

When officers showed up they found the 35-year-old victim holding his side and bleeding profusely. He was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition on Thursday.

He has since been upgraded to stable condition and is expected to recover.

The father, who was arrested at the scene, was arraigned in Eastpointe District Court on Thursday. Bond was set at $250,000 cash/surety bond, no 10% with a GPS tether if he is released.

“This is a sad situation for the family. A family argument should never escalate to any type of violence,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido, in a statement.

Authorities have not said what triggered the argument.

Richard Mayack faces up to life in prison if convicted as charged.
