DETROIT (WWJ) -- A Detroit man has been ordered held without bond, charged in the murder of his friend during an argument over the weekend.

According to investigators, 26-year-old Gregory John Strickland fatally shot Juwan McCreary outside a home in Eastpointe, then abandoned the body in Detroit.

According to investigators, Strickland and McCreary, 27 of Detroit, drove to a house on Firwood Ave. early Saturday morning. While inside the home, police said the friends got into an argument, which spilled out into the street.

After "some pushing and shoving" it's alleged that Strickland pulled a gun and shot McCreary, who was unarmed, around six times.

Strickland then out McCreary into the backseat of his car and drove off, police said. It's believed he may have been headed to St. John's Hospital with McCreary but decided instead to abandon the vehicle, with his friend's body inside, a few blocks away.

Police said Strickland then walked home and called police, telling them he'd hurt his friend in self defense.

McCreary's body was recovered from thevehicle where Strictland had left it, police said, and Strictland was arrested without incident.

"Our department would like to thank Detroit Police for their assistance and offer our condolences to the victims family," the Eastpointe PD said, in a statement.

Strickland was arraigned in 38th District Court in Eastpointe on one count of first degree premediated murder, one count of felony firearm and one count of concealing the death of an individual.

Police said it's unknown know the friend were arguing about.

Strickland faces life in prison without parole if convicted as charged.
