(WWJ) Police have made an arrest in Eastpointe's first murder of 2021.
The Eastpointe Police Department announced Friday that a 32-year-old Detroit man is in custody in connection with the slaying of a 38-year-old Eastpointe man, found shot to death in his basement.
The department said its detectives and undercover officers have been "working around the clock" on the case since Wednesday afternoon, when the victim's girlfriend discovered his body, in the home on Ridgecroft Ave., near 10 Mile Road and Stephens Hwy.
Police have not discussed a suspected motive for the killing, saying only that search warrants were executed and evidence was located.
Once all reports in the case are compiled, they will be forwarded to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office for reviewer, and formal charges will follow, police said.
"We want to thank the Macomb County Violent Crimes Task Force, Detroit Police Violent Crimes Unit, and Detroit Police Department. Great job to all the Eastpointe Officers for all their hard work," the department added, in a statement.
The suspect's name is being withheld until he appears in court for an arraignment.
