(WWJ) A 43-year-old man is charged with nine felonies, accused of murdering a woman whose body was found in an alley in Detroit.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy's Office says John E. Baldwin of Detroit was arraigned 34th District Court over the weekend on first degree, premediated murder and other charges in the death of 41-year-old Sarita Rebekah Neal of Detroit.
Police called to the area of Lappin St. and Schoneherr Rd. the morning of Nov. 13 found an unidentified, lifeless woman lying in an alley, according to prosecutors.
An autopsy by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office found the victim, later identified as Neal, was died of a single gunshot wound to the head.
An investigation by Detroit Police determined that Baldwin allegedly fatally shot Neal, then drove her in a car to the alley where he left her body. It's alleged that Balwin later set the car on fire at another location.
Baldwin was arrested on Nov. 25.
Along with the murder charge, he is facing two counts of assault with intent to murder; tampering with evidence; felon in possession of a firearm; false report of a felony; and three counts of felony firearm.
Authorities say Baldwin and the victim were "acquainted" prior to the killing, although they have not released details about a possible motive. Worthy's office says more specific facts and evidence will be presented in court.
Baldwin remains held without bond in the Wayne County Jail, as he awaits his next court appearance, a Probable Cause Conference set for Dec. 9.
