21-year-old man charged with armed robbery, unlawful imprisonment in attack at Frenchtown Township library

FRENCHTOWN TWP. (WWJ) -- A young man has been arrested and charged for allegedly robbing and assaulting employees at a Monroe County library.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Bluebush Library on Bluebush Road in Frenchtown Township, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said 21-year-old Ashton Emmanuel Williams walked into the library wearing a mask.

It's alleged the suspect pulled and gun and demanded money from library employees, while physically assaulting them.

One of the workers snatched Williams' mask, according to the sheriff's office, which made him run.

Library staffers called 911. a description was broadcast to area law enforcement, and multiple sheriff’s deputies and Michigan State Police troopers flooded the area.

The suspect was arrested moments later in a nearby subdivision and booked in the Monroe County Jail.

Williams, a Frenchtown Township resided, is charged with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of unlawful imprisonment.

Bond was set at $500,000 at an arraignment in 1st District Court in Monroe.
