MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) – A St. Clair County man is facing charges for allegedly starting a fire at his ex-girlfriend's home in Macomb County.
Zachary Zielonka of Riley Township was arraigned last Friday on charges of second-degree arson and first-degree home invasion.
The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office says Zielonka, 31, broke into the attached garage of his ex's home in Richmond Township on Sept. 7. While he was inside he allegedly set a vehicle on fire.
Authorities have not released any further details about the alleged arson, including a possible motive.
Police officials said last week two adults and three kids were inside when the fire broke out. Police said the man was alerted to the fire when he heard a loud noise in the middle of the night. No injuries were reported.
Zielonka's bond was set at $500,000 cash/surety and his next court hearing has been set for Sept. 19.
"I stand firm in our commitment to ensure that the flames of criminal behavior are extinguished, and that the victim's rights are upheld in the pursuit of truth and justice," Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said, per a press release.
