(WWJ) — A man who was allegedly living illegally in the United States has been charged with sexually assaulting his young daughter in Macomb County.

Joel Quintana-Dominguez of Shelby Township was arraigned earlier this month on three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido announced Tuesday.

The prosecutor’s office says the 32-year-old sexually assaulted his daughter “on multiple occasions” in 2024. The victim's age was not released.

Quintana-Dominguez’s bond was set at $500,000 cash/surety and the prosecutor’s office says he also has an immigration hold from the Department of Homeland Security. His next court date is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 1.

On July 15, Shelby Township police officers were investigating Quintana-Dominguez for a reported sexual assault of a minor and “were able to determine that this had occurred multiple times in Shelby Township,” police officials said in a press release.

Authorities said it appeared “he may have been tipped off and was packing up to flee the country” when he was found and arrested in an undisclosed Macomb County mobile home park.

Detectives were notified that he had entered the country illegally and had previously been deported, but officials did not disclose any other details.

“I am disgusted and sickened after hearing the details of this case on what Quintana-Dominguez is being charged with,” Shelby Twp. Police Chief Robert Shelide said, per a press release. “I am also appalled to hear that he had been deported in the past and was able to find his way back into the United States. These types of actions from illegal aliens are harming the country. I would like to thank the incredible work of our detective bureau for working swiftly to get him in custody.”

“Thanks to the swift and decisive action of the Shelby Township Police Department for apprehending this defendant before he could evade justice,” Lucido said.
